About me
Dr. David Diehl is a CWA Program Administrator for the Sanger Unified School District. He was previously a Director of Student Services for the Selma Unified School District, a Coordinator of MTSS, an Assistant Principal for the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, and an alternative education teacher in a juvenile detention facility in Monterey County. Before entering education, he spent 24 years in law enforcement, retiring as a police sergeant. His doctoral research was inspired by the 21 students he lost to gang-related homicides during his 5 years as a teacher. He has worked extensively with system-involved youth in court schools, community day schools, and other alternative educational settings. He is a proponent of data-informed interventions before 6th grade, as well as increased awareness among educators of the lives of street-socialized students from marginalized communities. He believes this approach can improve student engagement, increase resilience, and prevent future incarceration.
